Local 464 is the largest bargaining unit in The Ontario Public Service Employees Union and has a growing membership of approximately 2000 members. We represent all Hospital Professional Para Medical staff in over 70 occupations employed by the Ottawa Hospital, at the hospital's 15 locations within the Champlain District Health Region.
Our local was formed in 2000 as a result of a representation vote ordered by the Ontario Labour Relations Board held following the amalgamation of the original four area hospitals (Civic General Riverside and the Salvation Army Grace).
In the spring of 2002 the Rehabilitation Center (TRC) joined our group, in January 2004 the staff from ORCC and in the spring of 2004 the Sandy Hill Mental Health Crisis Intervention Team. We are a very large diverse group, out of many comes one strong voice.
The local's main responsibility is to negotiate a collective agreement and to oversee all disputes arising from the administration of the collective agreement between our members and the hospital.
We have an extensive team of Labour Relations Specialists available to us through OPSEU's Head Office and numerous volunteers from the various professional occupational groups which all work with the members to deal with their issues and disputes.
The local has an office located at 2525 St Laurent Blvd within the OPSEU Regional Office.
The Local Executive is comprised of the President, 4 Vice President Positions elected from the four largest sites the Civic, General, Riverside and The Rehabilitation Centre, Chief Steward, Secretary, Treasurer and Health Safety Officer. The executive also includes stewards from the many various areas and groups bringing the current total number of representatives to 86.
The Local Executive Committee meets the second Tuesday of each month, at the local's office at 5pm to discuss the on going business of the local. These LEC meeting are open and everyone is welcome.
It is through the dedication of the executive with the support of the membership
that we continue to move forward.
